FUN CHESTNUT FACT:
In colonial Europe's understanding of forest health, it was generally understood that fire was always bad for a forest. This is fundamentally untrue, but the prevailing myth dominated the United State's governmental forest management until very recently.

In reality, the American chestnut deals with fires much like prairie grasses do. Rapidly regrowing from a root crown makes a plant very resistant to a true fire death, even if the surface of the tree dies. The forest's traditional stewardship by Native Americans using fire to shape the landscape supports this... even with "official" records documenting the chestnut as a fire-sensitive species.

I really like the stylized leaves contrasted with the way everything else is very rendered. Ghost tree.

Awww, thank you! I haven't done enough studies on drawing plants/leaves, so I'm glad the more symbolic attempt made sense 😭💖
